Matching Workplace with the DISC Assessment

Although DISC isn’t as good as MBTI or Belbin for practical self-awareness and application, for selecting the right company I find it a very useful tool, and it has been one of the more recent additions to my toolbox.

DISC (Dominance, Influence, Supportiveness and Conscientiousness) reflects four fairly distinct types of organisations.

  • Your “Dominant” organisations are typically consultancies and law firms
  • Your “Influencial” organisations are usually creative industries
  • The “Supportive” organisation is often in the third sector
  • The “Conscientious” organisation may be in manufacturing

Understanding your type can help you identify which group of organisation you’re in, and while I think the actual names of each group are a little odd, they are very useful for helping narrow down a long list of potential employers to a short list.
